Rijeka is an old industrial port city. The city spread as the industry, shipyard business and sea trade developed. Today, citizens of Rijeka live on the remains of that infrastructure: industry almost completely vanished, shipyards are in their decadent period, and the sea trade has been taken on by the other ports of Adriatic sea. The shore itself became more available to citizens through last few decades, with the disappearance of the industry, so it mostly lies unused, outside any substantial interests. The breakwater, the Torpedo-surrounding area, and other shore zones are empty and insignificant. Observed from those points, Rijeka is a beautiful city, which is rarely seen from other points which are not close to sea. From inside the city, it seems to be a slightly amorphous mass of functional architecture, without character in any particular sense. The area surrounding Rijecina, also rich with industrial heritage, has been forgotten because it doesn't serve the original purpose. Sea isn't highly polluted, and all the existing architecture is solid and could be, with respective restauration, used for a wide array of purposes. In the spirit of the idea of using the existing good, I would make an 25 - 30 square meters plateau with stairs, fence and few pieces of interior furniture, made out of some useless wood, some simple metal pipes, some wool and few similar raw materials. Finally, there is a some kind of open living room installed on the wall of the breakwater, revealing the spectacular view of Kvarner Gulf and the southwest. Relaxing in that place, person could have his or her horizons expanded, regarding Rijeka, Croatia, or new possibilites as such.
